GDP per person across four major economies
Current-dollar output per person provides a compact—but incomplete—comparison of economic scale.
GDP per person in current U.S. dollars was United States $90,027, Canada $55,698, United Kingdom $57,602, Germany $60,496 in the latest available World Bank data. Displayed years can differ when one national release arrives later than another.
GDP per capita relates total output to population, but it is not household income and does not describe distribution, purchasing power or living costs. Exchange-rate moves can also shift current-dollar comparisons even when domestic output changes little.
The measure is most useful as a scale indicator. Purchasing-power-adjusted output, median income and consumption should be added for a fuller comparison of living standards.
